Being able to get pregnant and being a mother is every woman’s dream. To have responsibility for someone that came out from your own body is exciting and thrilling. At a certain age, after you get married, people will start to question for what reasons are you still not pregnant. Therefore, for a woman, it is truly a blessing to be fertile. But what people do not know is the implications during and after is quite tough and it takes a lot of yourself to be able to handle that stress and pressure. To be successful and independent is nice, but at some point, we would have to settle down, and the questions we would ask ourselves is are we truly ready for what we are about to face because once you decide to commit, there is no turning back. But today, we are not going to get that far, we are going to talk about the implications of motherhood in the workplace as there are many women now work full-time rather than be housewives.
First of all, when you get pregnant, you will notice some changes will happen to you. For example, your appetite will get bigger and leads to a bigger size of the body during pregnancies. Moreover, if you are not someone with anxieties, you will notice the changes in your emotions. For instance, you will get really sensitive over something that is so small. It can be challenging to be pregnant and working as it will definitely bother you if you do not know how to control it. It can get difficult if it bothers your other coworkers as well. For some who do not know the symptoms of anxiety during pregnancy, it includes bad concentrations on the things you are doing, muscles tense, and the anxious uncomfortable sense. You can avoid all these anxious thoughts and problems by taking things slow and not pushing yourself so much at work.
Other than that, once the times come for you to deliver the baby, you would have to request maternity leave. There is a lot of issues globally regarding maternity leave. Some companies think that it is okay for women to get a lot of rest after delivery, but some do not. Women after delivery will be recommended to have at least 40 days of abstinence to ensure that the body is strong enough to function properly after. The companies that normally allow their women staff to take at least 2 months of maternity leave is because they believe that it is necessary to let them restfully, so they could get back and ensure productivity. Therefore, it is very important for women to be aware of their company policy, and benefits, especially regarding this matter, so that they could prepare themselves for the worse scenarios.
Last but not least, after delivery, the baby will be with you and your husband. Normally, during your 40 days of abstinence, your mother or mother in law will want to take care of you and your baby, and your husband would work normally. But after that, you and your husband would have to discuss taking care of the baby. Coming back to my point, there are wives who would bring their kids or child to the workplace because there no one to take care of the baby and they do not trust the daycare. The problems with bringing your child to the office are that you have to pack their stuff with yours such as new mother nursing products such as cream for sore nipples, disposable breast pads, the baby’s breastfeeding storage bags, etc.
In conclusion, motherhood is quite tough and we can never deny how strong the women that go through it and manage to keep it together. But the implications are unavoidable, but you can control with precautions, planning, and good management to make it less stressful for you and your husband. On top of that, it is crucial between you and your husband to have a strong understanding and compromise to discuss things between each other. Moreover, you must be willing to take the risk and be truly ready for the challenges, because it is not going to get easy. What the company has to do is basically be aware of what is happening to their staff and come up with a good company policy to take care of the staff’s welfare and well-being as well.
