Why young adults should vote is a question that has been on the lips of many voters recently. As you likely have noticed, all candidates are always talking about getting the support of the younger generation in order to win the election. However, there is a lot of cynicism when it comes to this topic; and for good reason.
First, in order to have a fulfilling life, you need to do things for yourself. It’s true that you can take advice from others but if you feel that you are making a mistake by making a bad decision, you should not do it. The same goes for voting; if you don’t feel you are making a wise decision, you shouldn’t do it either.
So, how is it possible for anyone to tell someone whether or not they should vote? Well, there are several reasons. One, you could ask someone who has already voted or asked them why they did so. The answer might be pretty simple. Another way would be to go online and see what other voters have to say about a certain candidate. Hopefully, they will have some great advice to give you.
It is quite possible that the smartest voters are actually younger people. Everything you would need to know is on the Internet nowadays and younger people are usually the ones always surfing on the Internet, absorbing all the general knowledge and more. Especially since a lot of people now have a Unifi fibre plan, they surf uninterrupted. Believe it or not, there are young voters who have actually turned out to vote. Although they may be in their twenties now, many of them are still in high school. In other words, most of the young adult population still believes voting is something they should do when they grow up. It is actually quite amazing just how much time people waste when they get up to vote! The reason is that young adults are under the impression that you have to be older than 18 in order to be an eligible voter.
If this is the case, you are missing out! Yes, you do still need to be of legal age in order to vote. However, there are ways around that requirement. If you are still in high school, you can register to vote at your local election office and then use the Absentee Ballot box provided to you. That way, you do not have to worry about showing up and waiting in line to vote. On the other hand, if you are older, you can fill out the absentee voting form.
Perhaps the next question is why young adults should even care about a candidate. Well, perhaps one of the most compelling reasons is because voting can change your life. If you do not vote, you may end up being an uninformed citizen. On the other hand, if you choose to vote, you could help shape the laws of your country.
Additionally, perhaps you have friends who have never been registered to vote but have always felt strongly about it. These people probably feel that voting should be optional for all people. It is ultimately your responsibility to make the decision yourself, but at the very least, you can learn how the process works.
If you have all of these reasons, you should definitely register to vote. The States now allow 18-year-olds to register and vote. So, you should do it as soon as you can. Your vote can change the direction of the future. Why wouldn’t you want to use it?
However, you should also realize that there are many different aspects that make this an important choice for you and your fellow young adults. Even if you never end up voting in an election, you can still make a difference in your community. Think of how great it would be if you were the only young adult to sign up for a political action committee. You might end up changing the way your city deals with certain issues. In fact, many cities around the United States have political action committees specifically designed for the young adult population.
Also, think about your own personal growth. Not only are you more mature now than when you got your first job, but you have a lot more experience to back up what you are saying right now. It is possible that you could become a leader someday, and that is something that many young people dream about. The point is that you can make a difference in the world no matter what your age is. As you get older, that potential will become a reality.
If you are still wondering why young adults should vote, then consider the aforementioned reasons. You may even decide that this is something that you want to do. That is completely fine, and there really is nothing wrong with that. You should never feel like you are being forced to do something because you are too young to do it. Remember, there is plenty of time to do it!
