Many women are very independent and successful nowadays. Working mothers, especially new mothers would buy newborn baby products Malaysia since they are busy with their loads of work. We are currently living in the 21st century, where women, even mothers are free to go to work without being judged just like in the old days.
Based on a survey conducted by a salary benchmarking website named Emolument, the percentage of women who are reported to get stressed while working is 57 per cent. As for men, 48 per cent of them are feeling the same. This proves that women tend to get affected especially in the workplace.
Causes of Workplace Stress and The Effects on Women
When we talk about career women, some of us must think of them who might be mothers and how they are able to handle stress. Even so, there must be times when they feel like giving up on what they are going through. There are a few reasons why women are likely to experience workplace stress. These are the common reasons and not only women are affected by these, but even men are also too.
- Workloads
Let’s be frank, we all hate it when we are given a ridiculous amount of workload.
As for women, they might feel that they are dedicating their life to work only and the tasks and jobs given are snatching away their personal time. Some people might not be aware of the consequences of being stressed. It can be a menace to everyone if this issue is not taken seriously.
One of the effects of excessive workloads is depression. They can suffer from depression especially when they have been very passionate about their job but are treated horribly. This would cause their performance to go downhill and at the same time, risk their current position.
- The “Mommy Track”
There would be a conflict that inflicts on working mothers. Many of them feel that once they have children, they would be underestimated by their colleagues and even their superiors. This is such a sad reality we are living in and the fact is it’s still happening in our society.
We haven’t talked about single mothers yet and how much stress they have to endure in balancing between personal life and work. They are the breadwinner and they cannot just give up in order to survive. Most people are still sceptical about single mothers who are working. This would affect their mental health and confidence.
- Relationships
For those who are currently in a relationship, you might be involved in an argument, even the simplest ones. People might take this issue lightly and think of it as childish or petty. Some people do not have the ability to separate personal life and other matters, in this case, relationships. Relationships do not focus only on lovers but between friends and family members.
Of course, this would leave an impact on their work performance and it would leave a bad impression on their superiors and even colleagues.
- Poor Working Environment
A healthy working environment is needed in order to ensure that the employees are able to work in a chill and relaxed condition. One of the most common reasons that contribute to this is toxic working culture. Let’s say that there is a new intern in the company. What happens to her is she does not have proper guidance on what she is supposed to do and is bullied by her colleagues. This is a crucial topic since it is still happening today. The victim will lose her confidence as well as her self-esteem.
Other than that, an uncomfortable working space can also cause stress. Imagine having a very small working space, with tons of workload. Who in the world likes that?
- Lack of Skills
When you are asked to do something that is out of your capability, what would you do? Having to do something that is not related to your work can be very stressful. They might feel bad or feel down for not being able to help. They begin to think that they are incapable of accepting tasks and completing this.
This might lead to them feeling unworthy, affecting their mental health. This might seem like a small matter to some, but for those who are currently going through it, it isn’t really a small matter.
